Help an older adult in Cambridge or Somerville budget and manage their finances. This program helps ensure that essential bills like rent and utilities are paid!

This is a great volunteer opportunity for retirees!
Must be over the age of 18. We have an application process and CORI background check. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required.

The program serves people at their homes or wherever it is needed or online.
- In-person only.
SCES serves adults age 60+ residing in Cambridge and Somerville.

This is an ongoing program.
Year-round, long-term opportunity.
Additional information
Role: One-on-one match with a client who needs assistance with their bills or other financial obligations. Help write checks, reconcile bank statements, and assist with finance-related tasks.
Scheduling: Ongoing match, evenings and weekends okay. Usually a 2-4 hour per month commitment.
Training: 1-hour zoom training session on a weekday evening, and we provide a handbook and materials. Additionally, our volunteers meet 3 times per year to discuss educational topics and any client issues.
Skills: sensitivity to elders, reliability, willingness to do minimal paperwork, and respect for confidentiality.
Commitment: We look for volunteers who can stay with the program for at least a year.
