We are an independent, coeducational day school located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We honor the character and spirit of each child and encourage independent thinking in our students.

Applications are generally due by early January to enroll in the upcoming school year, though they differ by grade level. Admissions decisions are released in early March.

  • + 1. COMPLETE THE INQUIRY FORM
  • + 2. SCHEDULE A PARENT/GUARDIAN INTERVIEW - Parent/Guardian interviews (1 hour and 15 minutes) are required and scheduled via Ravenna.
  • + 3. APPLY ONLINE - You must create a Ravenna account. See your “Action Items” list for all required elements. A non-refundable application fee of $50 is required. Fee waivers are available those with financial hardship. 
  • + 4. INITIATE REQUESTS FOR EVALUATIONS AND REPORTS - We require a AISNE Form from your child’s current school. To authorize release, you may need a signed copy of a Record Release Form and confirm that they will send the records.
  • + 5. COMPLETE THE STUDENT VISIT - Student visits are required. A playgroup will take place on a morning or early afternoon in January.
  • + 6. IF APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID

  • Financial Aid and/or Scholarship Available

Visit our Financial Aid page to learn more about the process and availability of financial aid. Shady Hill School utilizes Clarity to assess the needs of families who apply for financial aid. We strive to make the cost of attendance feasible for as many families as possible. Financial aid is need-based, meaning that families must qualify for aid as determined by tools used by Clarity. Financial Aid applications are due by the beginning of February.

Transportation is optional from one of our 6 local routes. It is partially subsidized by the school and comes with an additional fee.

Additional information

From Pre-K through Grade VIII, we create change-makers by teaching students the critical and social-emotional skills necessary to be ethical, contributing citizens of the world. We encourage them to dig deep into the curriculum and realize their potential to create what they wish existed. 

Our curriculum advocates depth over breadth, we stress the relationships among many areas of learning and use original source materials, rather than textbooks. Central Subject, a distinctive method of teaching at Shady Hill, is an integrated approach to a people via their history, literature, geography, and arts. We teach 3 World languages (French, Mandarin, and Spanish) and a wide variety of intramural and interscholastic team sports. We also host an afterschool program that lasts until 6:00 PM.
