Sign-up Information
Ages: 4 to 12.
Grades Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade.
Charter schools are public schools and are therefore open to all Massachusetts students on a space available basis. Since we are a public charter school, the only reasons a student would not be eligible would be their age or they are not a Massachusetts resident. Banneker is a K-6 School, our Kindergarten program lasts 1 or 2 years. A 1-year kindergarten student must be 5-years-old. A two-year kindergarten student (in 'Preschool') must be 4-years-old.

Candidates for admission to apply for the grade immediately following their current grade and to successfully complete that grade to be admitted. Must be a Mass resident at the time they submit an application and while they are enrolled and while attending. Primary preference for admission is given to siblings of students currently attending the school, secondary preference for admission is given to students who are residents of Cambridge at the time that they are offered admission to the school. This program runs during the school year.
Monday through Friday.
Our schedule resembles a traditional public school year schedule (beginning at the end of August or early September and concluding in June). Including our optional afterschool program, the day ends at 6PM.

Here at the Banneker, we’re much more than a school, we’re a school community. Yes, we are a high tech, cutting-edge science, engineering and math school for elementary school children, but we also hold on to an old-fashioned notion that belonged to the one-room schoolhouse. This schoolhouse mentality means every child and their family is important to us. We get to know every child here really well. And because of that, we know what triggers them to excel, what inspires them, what motivates them. This helps us build trust quickly with parents and families.
Our teaching staff is amazing. They are among the most highly qualified and dedicated teachers in the area. They are a big part of our success.
Our philosophy is one of inclusion, all of us: teachers and family together, educating the whole child. Our monthly parent meetings are one way we keep everyone involved in this process. We have a variety of campus events geared toward insuring families are equally involved in the education of their child. And we’re constantly expanding the world of our students through field trips, outdoor activities, partnerships with local universities, and hosting events.
The Benjamin Banneker Charter Public School has been recognized as one of the top elementary schools in Massachusetts. At Banneker we offer parents a place where they are welcomed and their children are safe and will receive the best education. For Families with younger children Banneker offers a well established Full day PreK and K program. Every child receives breakfast and lunch and a full day of education and activities.
